Assignment Requirements
Put the following information on each piece of work that is handed in: Your name (First and last!), the date, your class hour. Hand in assignments on time. Late work is not accepted (Except for excused absences). Hand in your work completed. Do not only do a portion of it.
LISTEN THE FIRST TIME DIRECTIONS ARE GIVEN. Know what I expect of you! Nothing hurts more than spending time on an assignment and then losing points because you did not follow directions. If you are unsure of what I expect, ask! Take pride in your work! Make sure you hand in neat and complete assignments – messy papers will not be accepted. Watch your handwriting! If I can’t read it, I can’t grade it!
Grading System
A point system will be used to determine your grade in this class. Points will be accumulated throughout the marking period. At the end of the marking period, all points will be added together and divided by possible number of points to determine your grade.
Supplies Needed
You will need: lined notebook paper, pencils, pens (blue or black ink only), and highlighters.
Extra Credit
Extra credit opportunities may become available throughout the year. Students will be notified of these opportunities when they arise.
Hall Passes:
Each student will be allowed 3 per marking period. Do not lose your planner!!!!!!
Classroom Rules
1. No Tardies will be tolerated.
You must be in your assigned seat when the bell rings prepared to work with all required materials: books, notebook, pen and sharpened pencils. If you have no passes a tardy will be issued.
2. Treat each other with respect. Use manners such as: please, thank you, excuse me, etc.
No name calling or put downs—spoken, written, inferred or otherwise. No mistreating of other people’s things (including the teacher’s). This includes negative statements such as: stupid, retard, idiot, sucks, etc. No talking while the teacher or others are talking. Depending on the severity, you may be referred to the principal for further disciplinary actions.
3. Remain in your seat until I dismiss you (even if the bell rings).
You must receive permission to get out of your seat and move about the room. Keep feet, hands, and objects to yourself (no feet on the chair of the person in front of you).
4. Absolutely no phones, food, or drinks allowed in class (item will be taken away and detention assigned). Medical/situational exceptions may apply, see me if you have any questions or concerns.
5. All makeup tests and missed assignments are the responsibility of the student.
If you miss a class it is your duty to get the assignment and makeup the work..
All assignments are on the board and on the classroom student planner.
Failure to comply with rule #5 will result in a zero on the missed assignment.

Course Objectives:
To understand the Scientific method and why it necessary.
To learn the various cycles of our earth that drive changes to our planet.
To investigate how our solar system and space have an impact on the earth.
To discover how water and ocean cycles affect the continents and atmosphere.
Big Ideas:
Earth science consists of 6 major subcategories of study.
Geology, Hydrology, Oceanography, Meteorology, Climatology and Astronomy make up the core subjects of Earth Science.

Summative assignments (test, quizzes, models etc) will be worth 65% of a student’s grade as per high school grading policy.
